With a meager budget of only $27,000, Kevin Smith wrote and directed the classic black-and-white comedy, Clerks. The movie was premiered at a number of different screenings and festivals, so the official date could be argued, but most sources say the US release was on this day (October 19th) in 1994. According to The-Numbers, the film grossed over $3m in theaters upon its theatrical release.
Clerks became a cult-classic and one of many comedies Kevin Smith would go on to direct with casts including Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, George Carlin, Jason Lee, Rosario Dawson and lots more. Shouts to New Jersey.
